Gosainkunda (Frozen lake)

Gosaikunda, also known as frozen lake, is situated at an elevation of 4,380 meter in Rasuwa district of Nepal. There are other nine famous lakes such as Saraswati, Bhairav, Surya and Ganesh Kunda in periphery of Gosainkunda. In fact there are 108 small to medium lakes in total in this area and also the challenging Lauribina La pass 4,610 meters on its outskirts. It is believed that the lake is formed by digging of holy Trishul (trident) of lord Shiva as after he drank the 'Kalakuta' poison from 'Samudramanthan' and desperately wanted cold water to quench the overwhelming heat of the poison. Gosainkunda is a regular hindu pilgrimage site from where the forzen lake melts and sips down to form the Trishuli river.

It is on the way of a popular trekking route of Dhunche - Gosainkunda - Helambu trail.
